Mardi Gras, Parades
All hail the sacred drunken wookiee! The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus jumps Carnival to lightspeed

Raaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwrrrrrrrr! That’s Shryiiwook (Wookiee speak) for “ALL HAIL THE SACRED DRUNKEN WOOKIEE!” (I may have made that up. My Wookiee speak isn’t what it used to be.)
The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus marched through the Marigny for its annual parade Saturday. Scores of nerds clad in costumes of comic book characters, cartoons, science fiction and fantasy strutted their fandom through the streets at impulse speed. We sent photographer Matthew Hinton into the galaxy not so far, far away to get images. No Bothans died bringing us these pics — we think.

The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus (IKoC) parades as the first major Carnival parade on February 9, 2019 in New Orleans with over 2,000 walking members. This years king is Brian O'Halloran who played the character Dante Hicks in the Kevin Smith movie Clerks. The satirical IKoC states that it is a 'parade organization for the most revelrous Star Wars Freaks, Trekkies, Whovians, Mega-Geeks, Gamers, Cosplayers, Circuit Benders, Cryptozoologists, UFO Conspiracy Theorists, Mad Scientists, and all the rest of Super Nerdom.' This year's theme is 'Space Farce,' poking fun at the proposed Space Force. The Krewe paraded through the Bywater and Marigny neighborhoods including Frenchmen St. The Carnival season officially kicked off on Twelfth Night or King's Day on January 6th and ends on Mardi Gras, March 5.
