It can be difficult to keep track of everything that’s happening in New Orleans in a given week. No one person can keep tabs on all that goes down in the Crescent City, but we’re all capable of keeping a few must-attends in our head.
Our Best Bets are those events. We put in the leg-work so all you have to do is set a reminder and leave the house.
Think Less, Hear More: Flash Gordon
The tireless improvisers in Think Less, Hear More tend to limit their performances to older films with less well-known soundtracks. But for this edition of their regular score-on-the-spot shindig, they’re taking the Queen-assisted cult classic and adding their own personal touch.
Don’t expect to hear “He’s a miracle!” when this group takes on the vibrant ’80s cheesefest at Hi-Ho.
Where: Hi-Ho Lounge
When: Tuesday, July 24, 10 p.m.
Celebrate The Houseman
While reports of his death were a little early, Theryl “The Houseman” DeClouet did pass on on July 15. To remember their much-loved former vocalist, Galactic are hosting a public tribute to DeClouet at Tipitina’s. The event will run from 6-9 and is open to the public.
When: 6-9 p.m.
Quintron & Miss Pussycat with Bottomfeeders, Puta and Benni
New Orleans’ premier electro-swamp-rock weirdos announced their return to the city with a homecoming show at Poor Boys last weekend. But if you missed out on that set, the provocateurs and puppeteers are playing a city-focused set for Gasa Gasa’s 5th anniversary. Bottomfeeders, Benni and Puta all provide support for this birthday bash.
Where: Gasa Gasa
When: Friday, July 27, 9 p.m.
Jock Strap Lube Wrestling
Maybe you missed out on Choke Hole’s massive drag wrestling spectacle. Maybe you want to grease up and test your strength. Maybe it’s just Saturday and you need something to do. Whatever your reason for heading out, you shouldn’t miss this monthly wrestling match and drag show when it takes over Cafe Istanbul.

Have you ever been at a rap show and thought “This is dope, but it would be cooler if I was in a laundromat?” Us neither. But that doesn’t mean that the first-ever Laundro-Raps won’t be interesting. The Black & Gold Wash & Fold will do its best impersonation of a venue while artists and clothing makers hawk their wares in the back.
Where: Black & Gold Wash & Fold
When: Saturday, July 28, 9 p.m.
