DJ Kristi Sugarcookie Will Bring NOLA Flavor To Essence Fest’s Seminars

Catch DJ Kristi Sugarcookie when she spins her favorite records at the Essence Fest Beauty & Style stage!

Plenty of people around New Orleans are familiar with Kristi Coleman. The Fox 8 reporter is beamed into NOLA’s living rooms every single morning to tell people how the traffic is shaking out (spoiler alert: I-10 is a mess).

But far fewer people are aware of Coleman’s alter-ego. When she’s not telling the city about it’s highways and byways, she still likes to make sure people are moving. Coleman has been a DJ for years under the name Kristi Sugarcookie, spinning the latest hip-hop hits for Power 102.9. The New Orleans native has been deejaying under the name Sugarcookie since she was a senior at Dillard University. And she’s been involved with Essence’s empowerment seminars for many years- both as a coordinator and now as a DJ. Now, we’ll all get a chance to see her spin at this year’s Essence Fest.

As Sugarcookie, she’s locked in an impressive five sets  across the weekend. Coleman will be selecting sounds as part of the festival’s Empowerment seminars.

Catch Coleman during her morning or evening sets. She’s giving you plenty of chances. Coleman will play sets at 10 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday. If you somehow miss her, there’s one more wake-up set on Sunday morning.

Come on out, y’all, and support NOLA’s own. Check out the video on Coleman above and don’t miss a set from one of the city’s most prominent personalities.
