WORKSHOP DATES: Friday, June 21, 10:30AM- 4:30PM & Saturday, June 22 10:30AM- 4:30PM In this TWO-DAY workshop we’ll explore imaginative and colorful mixed media painting that combines abstract painting with a floral theme. Using acrylic paints, gels, pastes, collage and image transfer in a layered process, will open avenues for creative expression. Image transfers will be done from laser prints provided or you may bring a few of your own. A personal response and an enjoyment of the painting process is the focus. This workshop is for you if you are just beginning your painting journey, or if you’re a more experienced artist and want to explore new ideas. We’ll prepare two 11x14” cradled wood panels with gesso, pastes and gels. A base layer of bold color and loose, painterly marks will start the process. Then we’ll add several layers using, stencils, rubbing plates, collage, image transfer and various painting and simple drawing techniques. Experimentation with sanding down layers to reveal what’s underneath will also be part of the mix. There will be plenty of guidance and examples of how to compose your artwork, how to work with color, and demonstration of painting, drawing and collage techniques. Depending on your experience level and your work habits, you may finish your pieces during the workshop. Or, you may have several good starts that will be works in progress to take home to complete. Participants can email me for up to 2 weeks after the workshop with questions about their in process work.
