Join instructor Sara Martin at Longue Vue to learn some new ways to experiment with poetry writing and diversify the content of your poems. During this class we will talk about different ways to approach and challenge the page. What does poetry meant to you and how do you begin writing a poem? How do you define poetry? What do you find yourself writing about time and time again? We will go over techniques such as six-word memoirs, self-portrait poems, found poems, poem-a-day commitments, poems as letters, and humorous poems. Participants will respond to three different writing prompts, share their work, and offer feedback to fellow poets. Sara Martin has an MFA in poetry from Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She has taught creative writing at the University of Iowa, Victoria University in Willington, New Zealand, and other institutions. Her work has been published by Patient Sounds Press, Turbine, and The Seattle Review. $20 for non-members, $15 for members.
