Time: Tuesday and Thursday evenings in June, from 5pm to 6pm: Tuesdays (June 5,12,19,26) Thursdays (June 7,5,21,28) Instructor: Heidi Malnar Location: NOCCA, 2800 Chartres Street Tuition: $150 ABOUT THIS CLASS Advanced Beginner Adult Tap invites tap dancers to expand their vocabulary, hone rhythmic skills and develop a stronger foundation of tap technique. New and more complex rudiments, music fundamentals, time steps, and riff and paddle and roll patterns are explored. This class moves at a moderate pace, allowing more time for repetition and review of technical and rhythmic concepts as we develop combinations and choreography. Choreography will include both original and classic tap combinations. With a focus on anatomical efficiency in an effort to maximize balance and technical clarity, particular attention is devoted to proper alignment, initiation, and execution as the dancer develops solid timing, technique and precision. Students who enroll in the full six-week session for Level 2: Advanced Beginner Tap will be given access to class videos for the purposes of practicing and reviewing material outside of class. REQUIREMENTS Students should understand and be able to demonstrate basic tap vocabulary (i.e. shuffles, slaps, flaps, combined with basic weight shifts of hop, leap, skip and ball change, and a basic stomp or buck time step), and they should have at least one year of tap training. This is a high-energy class and an engaging workout for the mind and body! Please wear tap shoes and comfortable clothing for moving with ankle visibility. NOTE A minimum number of students must enroll in this class for it to "make". If fewer students enroll than are necessary, the class will be cancelled and full refunds will be issued. If we have to cancel the class, we'll make every effort to notify students at least one week before the first class meeting. Also note that... Students must register for the full eight-week session. Drop-ins/pay-by-the-class will not be permitted.
