Artist’s Perspective with Rose Bratcher on Buddha and Shiva, Lotus and Dragon

New Orleans Museum of Art
Getting there
1 Collins Diboll Circle, New Orleans, LA

Throughout the exhibition Buddha and Shiva, Lotus and Dragon: Masterworks from the Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller 3rd Collection at Asia Society, artists influenced by Asian aesthetics will offer their perspective on the objects on view. Rose Bratcher is an ensō painter and a monk at the New Orleans Zen Temple. In Zen, ensō is a circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create. The ensō symbolizes absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe, and mu (the void). It is characterised by a minimalism born of Japanese aesthetics.
