Join us for to learn about bees, see a live observation hive and enjoy honey tasting from Slidell’s Honey Island Hives apiary. Maureen will talk about the basics in beekeeping and will be bringing an observation hive to see bee's work in action! You can also purchase some of Maureen's fresh local honey. Maureen Schenker retired after 33 years of critical care nursing. She has been beekeeping since 2016. She started with two hives and have been growing since now she has 16 hives. Maureen’s hives are located in Slidell on the banks of the Honey lsland Swamp, hence the name of her apiary is Honey Island Hives. The bees find all their pollen and nectar from native wild swamp flowers and trees. Her beehives are chemical treatment free with all natural pure unfiltered honey. You can buy her honey at Cashsaver Grocery on Ponchartrain Boulevard a locally owned grocery store in Slidell. Maureen loves to bee keep, and enjoys learning all about the bees. The honey her bees produce is a sweet extra. Located in the Kitchen in the Garden, Plano Vegetable Garden
