Join us on Valentine’s Day, just ahead of the madness of Carnival, to get close to the ones you love and bask in the glow of one of Brazil’s cinematic masterpieces combined with live music from Casa Samba! Black Orpheus Mardi Gras Ball Thursday, February 14 Event Hours: 6:30pm - 10:00pm Advance Tickets on sale Monday, January 28, 2019 Dinner Dancing Live Music & More For our third annual Mardi Gras Ball in the Music Box Village, we look to the tragic love affair of Orpheus and Eurydice, set against a vivid Carnival-drenched backdrop in Black Orpheus (Orfeo Negro). With its evocative soundtrack and breathtaking cinematography, it has been described as “a film to be drunk and luxuriated in” and “an inspired reinvention of the underworld.” New Orleans’ own Casa Samba, led by founding member Curtis Pierre, will bring to life elements of the film’s iconic visual and musical moments, live in the Music Box Village! From the explosion of dance and martial arts of Capoeira, to the plaintive sorrow of an ill-fated romance and spiritual journey, and finally to the raucous parade music that is synonymous with Brazilian Carnival, expect to be immersed in Marcel Camus’ directorial pièce de résistance, winner of the 1959 Palme D’or at Cannes and the 1960 Oscar for Best Foreign Language film. It’s a Carnival masked & costumed affair (so wear something nice or don’t wear anything at all!) followed by a Casa Samba-led dance party with additional surprises! Special guests from the The Original Northside Skull and Bone Gang hail Orpheus’ descent into the underworld with a distinctly New Orleanian twist. Chef Al Angelin of Brown Girl Kitchen will create a three course menu highlighting Brazilian and Afro-Caribbean flavors. Purchase your dinner package in advance and have your Valentine’s date night under the stars in the unique atmosphere of the Music Box Village.
