A company's intellectual property often comprises some of its most valuable assets. Such assets may include the company's trademarks embodying its goodwill, copyrights in creative works, patents covering key technologies, and trade secrets that give it a competition edge. As a result, all companies should understand the basics of identifying, securing, maintaining and protecting their intellectual property. This presentation will provide an overview of the major types of intellectual property as well as the opportunities and risks associated with each type. In addition, this presentation will specifically address certain intellectual property topics that small business tend to run into, including issues related to brand development and employees.
