Collage Quilt & Free-Motion Workshop with Peter Horjus!

Getting there
4610 MAGAZINE ST., New Orleans, LA

If you've seen the current issue of QUILTFOLK MAGAZINE, you have no doubt read the wonderful article about Peter Horjus and his life and work. The image above and at the bottom of this page are from the magazine and show a few of his amazing quilts. Peter is a quilter, designer, artist and costume-maker who lives right here in New Orleans. Peter's portrait quilts have been exhibited at the Ogden museum (2016 and 2017 Louisiana Contemporary), and he's one of the co-founders of the Crosby Schoolhouse art collective. You can see more of Peter's work by following him on Instagram @peterhorjus and on his artist website. Sign up for the workshop now, as we anticipate this to fill quickly! Come and learn more about Peter.
In this workshop you will experience the principles of collage quilting using raw-edge applique and free-motion quilting techniques on your choice of images that Peter will select for you to experiment with. Some sewing machine experience required. If you are already familiar with free-motion quilting you will be ahead of the game – if not, you will have fun learning! Peter will teach you how to cut and form your collage piece; how to place your colors & attach the pieces to create your collage; how to stitch the pieces onto your quilt top; how to do free-motion quilting. Your art quilt can then be bound and completed.
You may decide to add any embellishments after you’ve completed your quilt. All supplies and materials to make your 20" x 20" art quilt wall hanging (or quilt centerpiece) will be furnished as part of your class fee. Please bring your working sewing machine and free-motion foot (or darning foot). Make certain your machine has the capability to lower your feed dogs (or a cover). If you need to use one of our machines, you must call us to reserve a machine! 504-302-9434. REMEMBER to bring your lunch & beverage as we will continue working through lunch (or pop next door to La Boulangerie). $65/person.
