Antenna Reading Room 220 May/June 2019 Address: 3718 St Claude Ave Website: www.antenna.works Telephone: 504-298-3161 Name of Exhibition: Crypt Iguana On view: May 11- June 30, 2019 Opening Reception: May 11, 6-10pm Closing Reception: June 8, 6-10pm Daily hours: Tuesday through Sunday 12-5 Crypt Iguana is a comic book chronicling life in the historic Key West Cemetery in Key West, Florida from the perspective of one of the hundreds of nonnative Green Iguanas that inhabit the area. The project is both a tribute to and spoof of sci-fi and fantasy genres that employ man vs. nature tropes and seek to tap into the deep-seated fears humans attach to the natural world. The ancillary Crypt Iguana reading room replicates the comic’s setting, dropping readers into the very cemetery where the narrative unfolds. . Bio: Sarah Welch is an artist, illustrator, and comics-maker based in Houston, Texas. She is a regular collaborator with letterpress & risograph print service, Mystic Multiples and co-organizer for the annual event, Zine Fest Houston. Welch is currently working on the second installment of her near-future Gulf Coast cli-fi comic, Holdouts.
