During this program dedicated toBig Queen Kim Boutte, who was killed in August 2020, the tribe will share her life, history, and legacy, as well as discuss the importance ofconnecting to the power of the ancestors through masking and share insights from their book Fire in the Hole: The Spirit Work of Fi Yi Yi and the Mandingo Warriors. This program is hosted in connection with the current exhibition Mystery in Motion: African American Masking and Spirituality in Mardi Gras, now on display at the Presbytère.This program will meet over Zoom at 6 PM CDT. It is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required.
