Genesian Summer Workshop: Circus and Shakespeare!

Archbishop Rummel High School
Getting there
1901 Severn Avenue, Metairie, LA

This workshop is designed for high school students incoming 8th-12th graders. Rummel students and girls from any high school are welcome. No previous Genesian/theatre experience necessary! Each days' sessions will be held from 1-4pm. Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement. No skirts please. Please wear tennis shoes with good traction and socks. Please bring a water bottle. For the Shakespeare workshop days, please bring a notebook and pencil.
The first two days (July 10 and 11): Students will be able to try their hand at any number of circus tricks: from stilt-walking to juggling and many more! Fly Circus Space of New Orleans will be on hand to instruct the students. Ms. Elizabeth Rose of Fly Circus Space will also be our circus consultant for our fall production of Barnum this upcoming season! While participating in this workshop may not guarantee a role in Barnum this fall, the skills learned will certain be valuable and fun to learn!
Meet in the Genesian Theatre, but many activities will probably take place outside or in the gym! The second two days (July 12 and 13): Students will learn to interpret, articulate, and analyze Shakespeare. Our director, Ms. Carol Eshleman, recently returned from a workshop with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-Upon-Avon and will discuss and utilize techniques used by the RSC to interpret Shakespeare's work. Once again, while the skills learned in this workshop do not necessarily guarantee a role in our production of Richard II this upcoming season, they will certainly be valuable for that production and beyond!
All Shakespeare workshops will take place in the Genesian Theatre.
