Andrew Hoogvliets, an artist and dyer with over 2 decades of experience, is teaching Intro to Indigo Dyeing & Shibori Techniques. Where: 2701 Chartres St. When: Saturday, April 6, 2019 11 AM - 4 PM This workshop is for anyone who is interested in learning to use natural indigo dye. No artistic or dyeing experience is required. Come ready to experiment and express your creativity!Fabric & lunch are included. Participants are encouraged to bring their own natural fiber garments or textiles to dye. You will learn: • How to dye with indigo. Participants will receive instructions on creating their own indigo vats, and do hands-on dyeing. • How to discharge (remove) indigo dye. • Shibori techniques including folding and crunch. We will provide practice fabrics, including smaller pieces, and a larger piece that can be worn as a scarf, wrap, etc. What you need: • Please bring a pair of dishwashing gloves to prevent staining your hands and wrists. • Wear comfortable clothes that may become stained, or bring an apron to wear over your clothing. • White or unbleached cotton, linen, or rayon items that you want to dye. T shirts or other shirts, cotton or linen pants (think pajama or beach pants), pillow cases, tea towels, tote bags, etc. are all great for shibori!
