Andrew Hoogvliets, an artist and dyer with over 2 decades of experience, is teaching Intro to Indigo Dyeing & Shibori Techniques. Where: 2701 Chartres St. When: Saturday, April 6, 2019 11 AM - 4 PM This workshop is for anyone who is interested in learning to use natural indigo dye. No artistic or dyeing experience is required. Come ready to experiment and express your creativity! Fabric & refreshments are included. Participants are encouraged to bring their own natural fiber garments or textiles to dye. You will learn: • How to dye with indigo. Participants will receive instructions on creating their own indigo vats, and do hands-on dyeing. • How to discharge (remove) indigo dye. • Shibori techniques including folding and crunch. We will provide practice fabrics, including smaller pieces, and a larger piece that can be worn as a scarf, wrap, etc. What you need: • Please bring a pair of dishwashing gloves to prevent staining your hands and wrists. • Wear comfortable clothes that may become stained, or an apron to wear over your clothing. • White or unbleached cotton, linen, or rayon items that you want to dye. T shirts or other shirts, cotton or linen pants (think pajama or beach pants), pillow cases, tea towels, tote bags, etc. are all great for shibori!
