As one of New Orleans' most-in-demand saxophonists, educators and composers, Khari Allen Lee believes art must show the world as changeable, and then help to change it. Over the last few years, Khari has been expressing his art with such luminaries as Alvin Batiste, Ellis Marsalis, Aaron Neville, Aretha Franklin, Branford Marsalis, Allen Toussaint, Stevie Wonder, Leah Chase, Herlin Riley, Shannon Powell and Adonis Rose with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, to name a few. After earning his Masters of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of New Orleans, Lee became an educator with Tulane University, the International School Moshi at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the Music Department of NOCCA. He has been featured on recordings with the legendary Dr. John, the Treme Brass Band, and recently released an album with Dee Dee Bridgewater & The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. Lee also leads the New Creative Collective, presented tonight, which features well-known New Orleans jazz veterans plus Brother Marcus Akinlana doing live art, as well as poetry and spoken word. Khari Allen Lee & the New Creative Collective has released their third album, "A New Earth" in 2015.
