Lena Prima is the daughter of the famed New Orleans trumpeter/vocalist, Louis Prima, and is in her own right, a seasoned veteran of the music industry. Prima was born in Las Vegas to legendary Louis Prima and his fifth wife, and sometime singing partner, Gia Maione. As a young girl Lena loved the music her Dad made and would play his records constantly. She would travel with Louis on his summer road trips and would frequently join him on stage to sing and dance, much to the delight of his audience. Lena had found her calling! Lena’s family split time between New Orleans and Las Vegas as she grew, depending on her Dad’s career demands. Sadly, Louis lapsed into a coma when Lena was 11 and passed three years later. Against her mother’s advice, Lena began singing professionally, and has continued since the age of 19. A string of rock and roll bands in her early years gave way to lounge and “cover bands”. It was while with the “Spiral Staircase” (I Love You More Today Than Yesterday) that Lena was inspired to create her own show, “Louis Prima, That’s My Dad!” That was the early 2000’s and her show has grown and evolved, but always contains a loving tribute to Louis Prima. Lena moved back to New Orleans in 2011 and over the course of the next seven years she recorded her 4th, 5th and 6th albums. In addition, Lena sang with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, performed at Gretna Fest, Voodoo Fest, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and French Quarter Fest. Lena has also travelled the country performing at numerous jazz festivals, jazz clubs, showrooms, and performing arts centers. Come and experience the Prima legacy live in The Jazz Playhouse! *Preferred Seating for small parties only.
