The Rapp Anderson Quintet is co-lead by two dynamic players, trumpeter Mark Rapp and alto saxophonist Wess "Warmdaddy" Anderson. Trumpeter, composer, arranger, didgeridoo player, recording and touring artist Mark Rapp has performed with a diverse array of artists from jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis to country music star Darius Rucker. In 2009 his debut release album earned him a spot as one of the "Top 25 Emerging Trumpeters" in Downbeat Magazine. He also became a featured artist in Mellen Press' "How Jazz Trumpeters Understand Their Music" along with Terence Blanchard, Lew Soloff, Freddie Hubbard and Dave Douglas. After catching the ear of both Branford and Wynton Marsalis while studying in Harlem, and subsequently coming to Baton Rouge to study under Alvin Batiste, Brooklyn-bred Wess "Warmdaddy" Anderson got his first big break when Wynton Marsalis asked him to join the Wynton Marsalis Septet in 1987, where he stayed for over a decade, meanwhile performing as principal alto saxophonist for Jazz at Lincoln Center. Anderson's personal style over the years has become known as a warm blend of traditional New Orleans jazz and Cannonball Adderly-inspired sweeping blues. Together, these two horns of plenty put out a collaboration album in 2017 entitled "Natural History." Tonight, the Rapp-Anderson Quintet presents their joyous annual "Boogaloo Christmas" show, sure to have you out your seat and in the spirit.
