Orchidea is a reflection of Michelle Welchons' bringing home musical and life experiences from abroad. A multi-instrumentalist with a focus on percussion, Michelle, out of a love for rhythm and groove, created the project to explore traditional songs and foreign concepts as foundations for new ideas, supported by the harmonic constructs of Western music. Michelle is a student of tradtional West African, Arabic, Afro-Latin, Classical European, and Black American Music, and all of these influences come together via a group of virtuosic New Orleans musicians to make Orchidea.
