It's Shakespeare time! Metairie Park Country Day School presents William Shakespeare's JULIUS CAESAR. This modern spin on Shakespeare's classic is inspired by recent productions at London's National Theatre and the Bell Shakespeare Company of Sydney, Australia. Our production employs nontraditional casting, gender-flipped characters, combined characters, and diverse representation to lift Shakespeare's story from its original historical context and explore the political dynamics through a contemporary lens. The cast includes EmmaJane Bauer, Dominic Dazet, Aliya Eissa, Bryce Elmore, Anna Hayne, Julianna Holley, Kristin Kempton, Jackson Lintner, Jack Li, Lilli Marshall, Julia Mueller, Jacob Mushatt, Abby Myers, Grayson Myers, Collin Neece, and Alexandra O'Sullivan, with technical support from Miles Bellaire, Emma Bellaire, Colin Fiore, and Destiny Laugand. The poster for this year's production features a design by senior Hannah Halpern. Hannah drew her inspiration from the stylized imagery of political propaganda posters, as well as graffiti art to derive the poster concept. The lines "DO THIS" and "Think of the world" are pulled directly from Shakespeare's play and represent, respectively, the party message of the ruling administration and the rallying cry of the rebellion. At the center, there's Caesar himself in a colorful, contemporary rendering of a traditional classical bust, a perfect metaphor for our production. A jpg of Hannah's bold, clever design is attached. The text style for the poster information deliberately evokes the branding of the National Theatre, which often presents Shakespeare in contemporary contexts. Performances run November 15-18, 2019. All seats are $10. All performances are in Weinmann Auditorium. Friday, November 15 @ 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16 @ 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 17 @ 3:00 p.m. Monday, November 18 @ 7:00 p.m.
