On view: Oct 13-Nov 4, 2018 Opening Reception: Oct 13, 6-10pm Daily hours: Tuesday through Sunday 12-5 About the show: Operating Thetan is a spiritual state above Clear. It is defined as "knowing and willing cause over life, thought, matter, energy, space, and time. Featuring the work of James Ulmer, Austin English, Dan Mandelbaum, Anthony Miler, and Jonathan DeDecker. James Ulmer lives and works in Brooklyn, his drawings may evoke memories of childhood innocence, their complexity and precision belie the notions of simplicity or nostalgia. Ulmer graduated from the University of the Arts in 2005. He has exhibited his work in New York, Austin, Texas, and Baltimore, MD and Stockholm, and most recently in San Luis Obispo, CA. Austin English is an artist living in Brooklyn. He published the book Gulag Casual in 2016. He is working on a solo show which will open in Spring 2019 at Marvin Gardens in New York. Dan Mandelbaum is a Brooklyn based artist who graduated from Pratt Institute in 2016. His general focus is in ceramic sculpture. Anthony Miler lives and works in Brooklyn, Knocked unconscious numerous times throughout his youth and adult years yet somehow fooled his way through university and though forgetting to collect both BFA and MFA diplomas, as a proper citizen never forgets a student loan payment and is always willing to put on a dumber smile in order to survive. Jonathan DeDecker lives and works in Brooklyn his thickly built up surfaces collaged with an all-over debris field. Colorful images limned over this mess include characters who appear to be cavorting with joy, though you get the nagging sensation that their exuberance may be irrational if not delusional.
