PAINTING & LAYERING ENCAUSTICS with Benné Rockett

UPTOWN NEEDLE & CRAFTWORKS
Getting there
4610 MAGAZINE ST., New Orleans, LA

ENCAUSTIC WORKSHOP with
Benné Rockett Enjoy a day of painting with encaustic, a versatile medium that is easy to use and exciting in the effects you can produce. Encaustic paint cools immediately, yet it can always be reworked. The forgiving nature of encaustic paints allows it to be re-melted to create different effects.

The four-hour class will cover the basics of layering wax, color application, fusing methods, and an exciting foray into tool applications. You will leave with two completed pieces, one on a wood panel box and the other on handmade paper. Wear old clothes in case of paint spatter, and remember to bring drinking water and a snack as we will work through lunchtime. Beginners welcome. Appropriate for adults ages 14+.
All supplies included. OTHER SUGGESTED SUPPLIESThough all materials and tools are on-hand for each participant we suggest you bring the following to personalize your artworks: printed paper napkins, a few pages or images from your favorite magazine (for inspiration or incorporation) and stencils.DATE/TIME: June 16, 10am-2pmCOST: $125PARTICIPANT LIMIT: 8 About your instructor,
Benné Rockett:A recently returned New Orleans native, Benné holds a dual Master's degree in Fine Art and Art Therapy. This layered foundation has led to a love of storytelling through various materials. Her most recent body of work merges the applied arts of Mexico with the native materials of the Yucatan, her home for the last seven years.
Early exposure to Mayan art and culture,
chance meetings with Yucatecos attending Tulane University, and advanced studies in the applied arts of Mexico have become integral to the narrative of place/person in her work.To learn more about Benné’s background and view her current artwork please visit her website:
