“There’s just something wrong about drinking good wine out of a plastic cup, but it’s also irreverent, funny, a cosmic joke.” says Papa Mali, one of the co-conspirators of Plastic Bouquet. He and guitarist Will Bernard realized this, late one night after a show, when the promoter had provided the requested bottles of wine backstage, but failed to provide proper glassware. Styrofoam cups appeared, wine was consumed and that should have been the end of the story. Yet, somewhere around the end of the second bottle, a legend was born; the legend of a band devoted to creating the perfect soundtrack to accompany say, a Chateau Mouton Rothschild, served in a red Solo cup. These are the days, my friend. These are the songs, the sounds and the grooves of fine wine, for everyday people. These are the days of Plastic Bouquet. Besides Mali and Bernard (whose combined, partial credits include 7 Walkers, Motherbug, Mad Skillet and The M&Ms) on guitars, there is the formidable rhythm section of drummer Nikki Glaspie (Beyoncé, Dumpstaphunk, Nth Power) and Bay Area bass legend, Bobby Vega (Sly Stone, Etta James, Billy Preston). Add to this already-intoxicating and funky mix, the incredible vocals and violin of New Orleans’ own, Theresa Andersson, whose local live appearances are a rare and always-anticipated event! For this and other obvious reasons (jazzfest crowds, limited capacity, etc) advance tickets are highly recommended. This is the band’s debut show and only jazzfest 2019 appearance!
