Each time Javier Bayona visits New Orleans we love hosting him for a tasting of his Bodegas Larchago in Rioja. He will be showing his Rioja Blanco, Rioja Rosado, Rioja Crianza and reserva single vineyard Izarbe Rioja 2009. Javier is incredibly enthusiastic about his wines and the region giving you a great opportunity to learn about the Rioja Alavesa while you taste some deliciously clean, pure and affordable wines. This tasting is free and open to the public. No reservations required. La Rioja is Spain's most well-known region and produces a range of wines from white to rose and it's famous age-worthy reds. Tempranillo is the star grape here with its authorized partners, Mazuelo (Carignan), Graciano, and Garnacha completing the traditional blends. One of the great things about Rioja is that it has a system of qualifying wines based on the method and length of the aging process. From basic Rioja to Crianza, Reserva and the ultimate Gran Reserva levels, the region offers a range of styles defined by the amount of time spent in oak giving it a versatility enjoyable on many different levels.
