Dance class: Beginner adult tap with Heidi Malnar Time: Tuesday and Thursday evenings from June 4-27, 6pm to 7:15pm Instructor: Heidi Malnar Location: NOCCA, 2800 Chartres Street ABOUT THIS CLASS With an emphasis on core tap fundamentals, solid technique and tap vocabulary, this class is deal for the absolute beginner, tap veteran, or anyone looking to begin or continue their training and journey into the art of tap dancing in a fun and relaxed environment! In a moderately paced class, students will learn to rhythmically shift weight and dance in time, proper placement and weight distribution in their tap shoes, how to accurately articulate all parts of the foot. Much time will be spent on weight shift (i.e. step, hop, leap, ball change, and skip), rudiments that articulate rhythmic variations and separation between the toe and heel taps, and basic gestures (i.e. shuffle, slap and flap). Once we establish "the basics" we will combine them into simple time steps, progressions, and historical tap choruses, such as “The Shim Sham Shimmy." REQUIREMENTS No prior experience is required. If you have never taken a tap dance class, or have had fewer than six months of classes, this is the class for you. This is a high-energy class and an engaging workout for the mind and body! Please wear tap shoes and comfortable clothing for moving with ankle visibility. NOTE A minimum number of students must enroll in this class for it to "make". If fewer students enroll than are necessary, the class will be cancelled and full refunds will be issued. If we have to cancel the class, we'll make every effort to notify students at least one week before the first class meeting. Also note that... Students must register for the full seven-class session. Drop-ins/pay-by-the-class will not be permitted.
