The Valley Below combines two bodies of work that dig into themes of domesticity, isolation, black identity, and the performance of femininity. Ireland appears in the work but as a character living a life different than her own. She has a BFA from NYU and a MFA from UCLA. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo shows at Schneider Gallery and WUHO Gallery. She is a recipient of the Snider Prize from the Museum of Contemporary Photography and has lectured extensively on her body of work about the architecture of Paul R. Williams. She has been published in Aperture magazine, Art Papers, and Vice.
