Mourners take part in a second line celebrating the life of Dave Bartholomew (December 24, 1918 – June 23, 2019) the architect of the New Orleans Sound as they parade from Kermit Ruffins’ Ernie K. Doe Mother-in-Law Lounge in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans with the TBC Brass Band. His son Don Bartholomew and grandchildren Christopher, Don Jr., Blake, and India Bartholomew were also present to honor the family patriarch who passed at age 100 Sunday.
Bartholomew was the producer and co-writer of many of the hits of Fats Domino (February 26, 1928 – October 24, 2017) including “Blue Monday” and “Ain’t That a Shame.” He co-wrote “The Fat Man” with Domino which is considered one of, if not the first, Rock ’n’ Roll records and Bartholomew was also inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
