Here’s a list of local options for Thanksgiving takeout in New Orleans

Thanksgiving is going to look a little different than it has in past years, but it can taste just as good, maybe even better. The unusual social climate we’ve been in has brought your favorite restaurants to a pivot point -- they nearly all offer takeout options now, and what better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than with the most scrumptious food that you didn’t have to cook!

This year, Thanksgiving is going to look a little different than it has in past years, but it can taste just as good, maybe even better. The unusual social climate we’ve been in has brought your favorite restaurants to a pivot point — they nearly all offer takeout options now, and what better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than with the most scrumptious food that you didn’t have to cook!

If your quarantine bubble is on the bigger side or if you’re enjoying an outdoor gathering, the most delicious bang for your buck is Copeland’s menu. With multiple locations throughout the state, you can get a classic cajun fried turkey for $55 hot or $45 cold, if you’re able to heat it up on your own. A Thanksgiving meal for four comes to $23 per person and, if you’re feeding a small army, a spread for 24 people comes to $15 per person. This includes turkey gravy, buttermilk biscuits, mashed sweet potatoes, cranberry compote, buttercream potatoes, smothered ham and bacon green beans, Cajun corn maque choux and chocolate chip cookies.

Order online here, 48 hours in advance, to pick up and enjoy on any day until Nov. 30.

Mandina’s

Beloved Mandina’s Italian Restaurant, operating since 1932, just released their Thanksgiving day offerings. While turkey isn’t on the menu, so many mouthwatering dishes are. In addition to salads and sandwiches and a whole slew of sides, you can get a main dish of creole eggplant, shrimp creole, crawfish, shrimp or chicken pasta, crawfish or shrimp etouffee with rice, jambalaya, meatballs, fried shrimp and catfish, red bean and rice with sausage, or fried chicken strips. Their only dessert is bread pudding but with bread pudding done right, what else could you possibly ask for?

Visit their website here but call to order at 504-482-9179, as their Thanksgiving menu hasn’t been uploaded online yet.

Cochon Butcher

Cochon’s holiday catering menu takes a little bit of kitchen expertise, as the meats are prepped there but require cooking at home. If you’ve got the space and the skills, it looks well worth the effort. Marinated prime rib, jambalaya-stuffed chicken, boudin-stuffed whole, free range, pre-brined all natural turkeys compete with andouille, tasso, country smoked sausage and whole hogs. There is an entire smoked classic turkey option that’s ready to reheat at home, but jump on that– they’ll sell out fast! Their pies, cakes, cookies and eggnog come from La Boulangerie and include apple, pecan, pumpkin, key lime, chocolate, red velvet and carrot. Even the soups and salads sound tempting.

Thanksgiving orders must be placed by Saturday, Nov. 21 here.

Pick up is on Tuesday, Nov. 24 or Wednesday, Nov. 25 10 a.m.- noon or 3 p.m.- 7 p.m.

Neyow’s

Neyow’s catering menu is extensive, as they are used to preparing feasts. Every classic holiday dish you could desire plus their entire regular catering menu is available for order. Choose from crab balls, crab patties, stuffed mushrooms, fried oysters, coconut shrimp, battered jazzy wings, meatballs, mini po’boys, gumbo, smothered potatoes, seafood pasta casserole, corn and crab bisque soup, jambalaya or a whole ham, turkey or roast, to name some of the options. Top the dinner off with pound cake or white chocolate bread pudding and then top that off with butter rum or praline sauce.

Go to the Neyow’s website to order your meal by Tuesday, Nov. 24. Pickup is on Wednesday, Nov. 25. They are closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Bourbon House

While Brennan’s traditional three-course Thanksgiving meal is worth the splurge, they’re exclusively dine-in, even this year, and began taking reservations for the holiday day two months in advance. Good news: their somewhat more casual dining space, Bourbon House, actually has a great looking option for takeout at half the price. Your options are slow-roasted turkey, cornbread oyster dressing, yukon gold mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, gravy, cranberry sauce or cane sugar glazed spiral sliced ham, baked macaroni, shrimp and mirliton dressing, southern braised greens, with tart a bouille or spiced pumpkin cake.

Order from their website or call 504-522-0111.

Popeye’s

Consider this a public service announcement: the Popeye’s Cajun-style fried turkeys are back this season. Averaging from 10-14 pounds, they’ve been marinated with Popeye’s signature seasoning blend, slow roasted and flash fried. Yes, the national news and many YouTubers have already started covering this exciting event because it is truly exciting. Pair it with their mashed potatoes and gravy, biscuits, green beans, or red beans and rice.

Call or drive by your nearest Popeye’s to place your pre-order as far in advance as you can or cross your fingers and swing by on the day of.
