When you’re taking the time to pay homage to Stan Lee this weekend, you’re probably not thinking about capes, pasties or bustier-clad versions of your favorite comic book characters.

Well, maybe you should. The weekend of November 16-17, the 4th Annual Nola Nerdlesque Festival returns, putting together unique versions of your favorite heroes and villains on two stages in the city.

So what is nerdlesque? It’s touted as a ” form of burlesque that parodies pop culture, particularly beloved geeky territories like comic books and video games.” It’s also rooted in the classic burlesque parody and neo-burlesque movement, and New Orleans isn’t a city to shy away from the art of the striptease.

The festival brings performers from around the country to four shows over two days. It kicks off Friday night at the Contemporary Arts Center, at 8 p.m., where the them of the show is Striped Crusaders. The second show that night is at 10:30 p.m., with Tease from the Crypt, filled monsters and murderers.
