Late Night Dance Parties And An Atypical Blood Drive Are The Best Free Things To Do This Weekend

Here's your best free things to do this weekend.

by Alex Galbraith | August 17, 2018

Creeping into the back half of August, it’s easy to see why someone might be a little hard up. It’s too dang hot to not indulge in a few drinks, a movie or anything else that gets you out of the outside. If you’ve blown all your money on cover charges and cocktails this week, we have you covered for the weekend.

There’s plenty going on that will allow you to keep your wallet buried deep in your pockets.

B-Movies At The Best Bar

Bar Redux is many things: a watering hole at the very edge of the Upper Ninth Ward, a crucial source for chicken wings and a mecca for fans of Elvis. But it’s also one of the best movie theaters in town, provided you’re into campy classics or film noir. Out in the Scrapyard — which is what they call their back patio — film nerds and buzz-seekers alike can take in a few B-movie greats like Phantom From The 10,000 Leagues, Attack of The Giant Leeches and Creature From The Haunted Sea.

When: Friday August 19, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

If you’d prefer a less sedentary weekend, the Ace Hotel has a night that’s sure to get your feet (and all the other attendant bits) moving. Night Moves promises hip-hop, house and a whole lot of bass for people to make their Fridays a bit more strange. They ask that folks get weird, make shapes and be free, even though they’re already handling the “free” bit.
