PHOTOS: Bioluminescent bacteria light up the night during NOLA professor’s exhibition

Bacteria lit up the night Thursday as the Zeitgeist Theater was transformed into a bioluminescent wonderland thanks to Dr. Hunter Cole’s unique “Illuminated Living Art” project. With the help of her Loyola students, she painted hundreds of Petri dishes with a special strain of bacteria that glows as it feeds on agar in the dishes. The glowing designs were placed around the darkened theater and affixed to dancers to complete the ethereal experience.

Glow Night was one night only, but you can catch Dr. Cole’s photos of her bioluminescent art in the theater lobby through November 28.
