Halloween 2020 just isn’t the same. Ghost Manor isn’t hosting nightly shows and the Skeleton House on St. Charles isn’t full of bones. But, in true New Orleans fashion, we won’t let a pandemic keep us down. Here are some of the best Halloween-themed decorated homes we found around town.
For the past seven years, Jeff Thomas has been decorating his home on Burgundy St. (pronounced Brr-gun-dee in New Orleans) in the Bywater neighborhood with such themes as Bywater Asylum or The 9th Ward Orphanage. This year he has settled on the Hillbilly Hollow. He uses at least 13 dolls with various masks. Normally Thomas only decorates for Halloween but he has already caused people to stop and pause as they walk by with The Ladies of Corona, a group of mannequins holding toilet paper and wearing masks. Originally from Kentucky, Thomas wonders if he will be able to see his family in that state this December during the pandemic, and may end up staying here and doing a Christmas theme.Thomas sells his creations as art pieces called The Orphan Souls, that can be found on his website www.theorphansouls.com.
