There’s a certain subset of the internet that always cares deeply about shoes. But thanks to a recent ad campaign starring Colin Kaepernick, the shoe obsession bled over into MAGA-land. Plenty of compulsive-tweetin’ types took it upon themselves to destroy their expensive footwear in a fit of “Why won’t the football man stand up?” rage.
While everyone is talking about their Nikes, running out to buy new ones, rocking the ones they have or um, burning them while they’re on their feet, it got us looking at everybody’s kicks. We couldn’t help but think of our own very local, NOLA and Louisiana-inspired kicks.
If the smell of burnt Nikes has awoken your inner sneakerhead, why not take a second to rep your favorite state on your feet?
What about these Louisiana-inspired Adidas from last year? The shoe giant contacted 50 artists and had them make a shoe to celebrate each state. Louisiana’s came out looking like a king cake, decked out in Mardi Gras colors .
If you want to get a bit more local (and we always do), why not snag a pair of Reeboks designed by the party photographer and icon Polo Silk? He and Chase N. Cashe teamed up with the company for their ‘3 AM: NOLA’ series this summer.
If you want to support Nike against all those sneaker haters with third-degree burns on their feet and messed-up socks. the company created their own spin on a Louisiana shoe. With the help of a Baton Rouge skate shop, they created Crawfish boil Nike’s that were flying off the shelf until the season ended.
