Deutsches Haus: The granddaddy of them all, “the German presence in the Gulf South” holds its Oktoberfest actually in October, starting this Friday, October 5. There will be “oom-pah” music (which is a lil’ different from the brass we’re used to, but still just as fun), 20 different German beers (including an exclusive new brew called FestBier from Urban South), brats and kraut for days and lots of fun events stretching over three weekends. This year also marks the spot’s 90th anniversary in the Crescent City, so there’s even more reason to celebrate. Brieux Carre: On Saturday, Oct. 6, the Marigny brewery is closing out Oktoberfest with a bang. Good German beer, food and fun. There will also be stein hoisting competitions, if you dare compete against the greats. The festivities start at 11 a.m., so get there early!

Tchouptoberfest: NOLA Brewing Co. is holding its second-annual Oktoberfest party on Oct. 13 form 4-9 pm. Food will be coming from Cochon Butcher, among others, so come hungry! They’ll also be featuring a fest-special beer called, what else, “Tchouptoberfest!” More information here.

Rivertown Oktoberfest: Right along the Mississippi on October 12, there will be Oktoberfestivities with live music, fun and games and, of course, beer. Best of all? It’s free! More information here.
Gretna Oktoberfest: For a more cultural experience (read: not revolving around beer drinking competitions), head on over to the German-American Cultural Center in Gretna. On October 13, the GACC will be holding its annual Oktoberfest celebrations, and what better way to learn about the German experience in Louisiana than by spending the day in the heart of it? The GACC is the historical center of the German immigrant experience in the region, and you’re welcome to explore the history of it through exhibits, lectures and more.

Port Orleans: If you want to head somewhere Uptown, Port Orleans has you covered on Saturday, Oct. 6. They’re busting out a special menu just for the occasion, along with a “mostly goat” petting zoo, live music from local polka band, The Bräts. More information here.
