“What we ate” is a weekly feature where the Very Local New Orleans team shares our favorite dishes, meals and cocktails from our week. Tag us @verylocalnola and show us what you ate this week!

For our inaugural “What We Ate” feature, we are bringing you a few of the dishes we ate while working on the launch of this site. As we brought together all the elements that make Very Local New Orleans, and as we connected as a team, we, of course, enjoyed several meals and happy hours across the city.

These are our three that made our tastebuds sing, but determining which dishes and treats made us salivate most was no easy feat for any of us. Follow us on Instagram at @verylocalnola to see more of our food picks throughout the week!

From Clint:

Snowball – Hansen’s Sno-Bliz
“I sweated. I waited. I conquered. My sweet sojourn for a snowball had me at Hansen’s. As I waited in the scorching sun, I dreamed of an icy paradise of my own creation. My imagination crafted a perfect sweet sensation of wild cherry, crushed pineapple and whipped cream. When it became real, I was on cloud 9.”

From Blayre:

Oyster BLT sandwich- Borgne

“The Oyster BLT from Borgne was the kind of ‘BLT’ you think about long after you’ve had it. The pork belly sets. It. Off!” This one was a crowd pleaser!

From Kiri:

Chicken & Waffles- The Country Club

The chicken and strawberry basil waffles from The Country Club were particularly surprising. I consider myself a brunch snob, and for me, brunch at The Country Club was never about the food. Until now. You go to Country Club if you really want to have a Sunday Funday in every sense of the phrase, but you aren’t there to have the greatest meal. Looks like that has changed, just like the absolutely gorgeous decor of one of my favorite spots in town. This dish was absolutely superb. The chicken was flavorful and the addition of the basil with the strawberries for the waffles made the entire dish taste like Southern summer. Everyone at my table agreed that I had the best dish and they could not stop taking little bites of it.
