What’s Happening (Virtually) in New Orleans This Weekend: June 26-28

Things are slowly returning to normal, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had online if you’re not quite ready yet! Here are some of the events we’re most looking forward to in Virtual New Orleans this week:

FRIDAY, JUNE 26

Cardio Blast Live Stream | 10 a.m. | Zoom (link will be sent upon registration) | Free
Join Footprints To Fitness for a free 30 minutes cardio workout in partnership with FitNOLA and the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission. The class is designed for all levels so bring the whole family!

On Friday, FitNOLA is also a “Mommy & Me Yoga” class at noon, a body sculpting class at 6 p.m., and a Zumba class at 7 p.m.

Lepage Virtual Roundtable: A New Seat at the Table | Noon | Zoom (email to receive link) | Free
As the culinary industry begins to open its doors, owners are faced with new challenges in this pandemic reality. Oyster Sunday Founder Elizabeth D. Tilton discusses her Critical Path for Reopening Restaurants, focusing on what owners and entrepreneurs need to consider while rebuilding their businesses. This roundtable will touch on identifying alternative compensation models for your team, balancing labor and technology, and building a customer base and trust through strategic communication, which can be applied across a range of industries. 

Ciné-Club à la Maison : Les Misérables | 2 p.m. | Zoom | Free
Each week during quarantine, Alliance Française of New Orleans hosts a club for lovers of French film. You can watch the movie here ahead of time so you’re ready for the Friday Zoom discussion!

Jazz from Coliseum Park with Sunny Side | 5 p.m. | Facebook Live | Donations encouraged
Local jazz group, Sunny Side is live streaming from Coliseum Park from 5 until 8 p.m. Check them out for some of your favorite classic jazz tunes!

Anders Osborne Presents #LivingRoom2020 | 6:30 p.m. | Facebook Live | Free
Local superstar Anders Osborne is performing a 90-minute set focused on the obscurities and previously released songs from his 35-year career. Anders Osborne fans are not going to want to miss this special performance!

Golden Hour with Big Chief Donald Harrison | 6:30 p.m. | Facebook Live | Free
Jazz Saxophonist and Big Chief Donald Harrison performs Friday, June 26 for the next installment of the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park’s interactive Facebook live stream series, “Golden Hour,” hosted by Nick Spitzer of the public radio program American Routes. Spitzer will be in conversation with Harrison and his quintet between musical performances.

 

Ellis Marsalis Tribute Night | 8 p.m. | Facebook Live | Free
Every week Snug Harbor hosts a tribute show to the recently departed New Orleans music legend, Ellis Marsalis, Jr. Swing by their Facebook page at approximately 8 p.m. and they’ll post the link to what’s become a very popular series of shows.

SATURDAY, JUNE 27

Fitness Fusion Class | 9:15 a.m. | Zoom link will be provided once you register | Register here and first class is free
Like a gumbo pot, health and wellness company Footprints To Fitness created their master Fitness Fusion class to provide something for everyone… a true fusion of kickass workout with a whole lot of New Orleans culture. More than just a workout, it’s an experience! This class will be live streamed on Zoom. Register on their website to receive a custom link to join. The first class is free & registration is also available on ClassPass. 

Join The Journey for an all levels, high intensity combo class led by founder and media personality April Dupre, that combines yoga, pilates, strength training, weight training, cardio, and barre ALL IN ONE CLASS!

Want to learn a little piano? Or would you just like some insight into how greats like local Jon Cleary gets to be so great? Check out this one hour piano lesson with the man himself!

Flip the Script: A Conversation for NOLA’s Young People | 1 p.m. | Zoom (link will be shared after registration) | Free (RSVP here)
Calling all New Orleans youth, ages 12-24! Join young people from across the city as we workshop ideas to collectively rewrite the dominant narrative around the city’s young people and chart a new vision for the future of New Orleans youth. You can find more information here.

Real Rob’s Swanky Cocktail Hour | 3 p.m. | Facebook Live | Free
Real Rob’s streaming to fans across the globe from his 9th Ward salon. The set list is available here and will include standards like The Good Life and Folsum Prison Blues.

One of New Orleans’ most popular bands is getting funky this Sunday! Hanging out at home or outside on Sunday? There’s no better soundtrack.

Japan-NOLA Jazz Performance Series | 1 p.m. | Instagram Live and Facebook Live | Donations encouraged
Haruka Kikuchi has been in New Orleans since 2014 and has made a name for herself as a superstar trombonist. Watch her perform with Yoshitaka “Z2” Tsuji on keyboard and special guest Nobu Ozaki on bass.

Big Freedia’s Kitchen: Gospel Sundays | 1 p.m. | Instagram Live and Facebook | Free to watch, but recipes are as low as $5/month
What does the Queen Diva cook? It turns out thousands of people want to know! Watch her chop it up in the kitchen every Sunday for gospel brunch. If you think it’s just cooking, you obviously don’t know Big Freedia. There’s music, dancing, cocktails and special guests, as well!
