Look, we know you spent all your money on tickets, an outfit and merch at ‘On The Run II.’ That’s okay. It’s Beyoncé. That’s what you’re supposed to do. But if you don’t feel like locking yourself away this weekend to make financial penance, we have plenty of free events that can keep you out of the house without coming out of your pockets.
Just because your broke doesn’t mean you don’t wanna dance. Sweat it out to a mix of new wave songs you know and deep cut Italo-disco tracks that you don’t at this St. Bernard Avenue party.
Where: The Goat
When: Friday, September 14. 10 p.m.-late.
The Somerton Suitcase with Fantasy Non-Fiction & Toby O’Brien
I can’t speak for the other bands on the bill but the one time I caught Fantasy Non-Fiction out around town, they were fantastic. That’s more than worth the non-existent price of admission.
When: Friday, September 14. 8 p.m.
Where: Bar Redux
Opening Day at the Music Box
The Music Box is back in action and you can play on their odd instruments for free from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. After that, it’s a dance party to celebrate folks who spend money.
Where: The Music Box Village
When: Saturday, September 15, starting at 10 a.m.
Ben Eisenberger, Justin Ready, Dan Harvester, Emma Lean, & Vimanas
A night of free tunes and not-so-free food lead by Omaha singer-songwriter Ben Eisenberger.
Where: 231 S. Alexander Street
When: 7 p.m.
Winona Forever by Momma Tried
An art exhibit that doesn’t so much remember the ’90s as it remembers our own distorted remembrance of the ’90s. Created and curated by art collective/magazine Momma Tried. The art will be there for the next month or so but you’re going to want to see it first.
When: Saturday, September 15, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Ace Hotel
